What is a Fire Door?

A fire door is an essential component of fire safety, designed to prevent the spread of fire to other areas. It provides a critical barrier, buying valuable time for the evacuation of occupants and emergency personnel.

A fire door is a door with a fire resistance rating.

Fire doors are used to reduce the spread of fire and prevent smoke from traveling between areas.

Fire doors are an essential part of any building, as they can slow the spread of fire between rooms. In the event of a fire, they may be able to save your life or the lives of others.

A common misconception is that steel doors are automatically fire doors, but this is not true. Fire doors must undergo fire resistance testing to determine their fire resistance rating.

CNS11227-1 Fire resistance tests

A complete fire door assembly, including the door frame, door leaf or sliding door, hardware accessories, and seals, is designed to meet the requirements for fire resistance, flame containment, or heat insulation. According to the CNS11227-1 fire resistance performance testing method, the fire door is tested for fire, smoke, and heat containment performance, and its fire resistance rating is determined.

Reference Standard: NFPA 80 

Any combination of fire door leaf, door frame, hardware, and other accessories that provides a certain level of fire protection performance for the openings in a building.

A door or gate installed within a building, along with its frame and accessories, designed to resist the passage of flames and combustion gases, and meet specific performance criteria.

What is a Fire Door?

Fire doors are rated for heat resistance and are used to reduce the spread of fire and smoke. They are a crucial component of buildings, designed to protect the lives of occupants by preventing the fire from spreading between different areas.

Fire door frames and their hardware components, tested in accordance with CNS11227-1 regulations, can sustain their fire resistance for the specified duration during heating tests.

Fire Rating

Fire door frames and their assembled components are able to continuously maintain fire resistance properties, including flame-shielding, stability, and heat insulation, during testing.

Fire Resistance

In fire resistance testing, the fire door frame assembly and components, when exposed to fire on one side, can prevent the penetration of flames and hot gases for a specified period of time, while also ensuring that flames do not appear on the non-heated side.

Fire Integrity

The fire door frame and component accessories, when subjected to fire resistance testing, must maintain structural stability for a specified period, whether under load-bearing conditions or not, to prevent collapse.

Fire Stability

Under fire resistance test conditions, the building fire door frame components and structures must have the ability to ensure that, when one side is exposed to fire, the temperature on the unexposed side does not exceed the specified limit within a certain period of time.

Fire Insulation

The fire resistance heating test ensures that the fire door frame components and accessories have the ability to prevent smoke or fumes from passing from one side to the other through the non-exposed side during the specified test duration.

Fire rating

Fire doors are specifically designed to withstand flames for a specified duration. The duration for which they pass testing determines their fire resistance rating or fire endurance.

The fire resistance ratings of fire doors are categorized by fire endurance as follows: 30/60/120/180/240 minutes.

All certified fire doors must have compliant labels installed on both the door and the door frame.

Insulation

Has a fire resistance rating of 60 minutes and a heat insulation performance of 60 minutes.

f(60A) 

Has a fire resistance rating of 60 minutes but only a heat insulation performance of 30 minutes.

f(60/30A) 

Has a fire resistance rating of 120 minutes but only a heat insulation performance of 60 minutes.

燦通公司所精心研發製造之防火門,以特殊結構設計,具耐火性、安全防火,已獲得美國UL實驗室測試通過3小時防火試驗,取得UL防火門認證。

通過CNS11227-1防火門耐火性能試驗法測試合格,取得經濟部標準檢驗局CNS防火門商品驗證登錄證書,防火時效2小時具有隔熱性能的防火門,以及具有遮煙性能的防火門認證。

Product Certification

The construction of fire doors with fire resistance performance requires reinforcement in both the door frame and door leaf during manufacturing to meet fire endurance requirements. Depending on the fire performance rating, various combinations of internal framework reinforcement and structural methods are designed. Compliance with specified standards mandates the attachment of fire resistance test reports or fire certifications to demonstrate fire endurance.

 

The fire doors meticulously developed and manufactured by San Tung Company feature a unique structural design, ensuring fire resistance and safety. They have passed the 3-hour fire resistance test conducted by UL Laboratories and obtained UL fire door certification.

Additionally, they have successfully passed the CNS11227-1 fire resistance performance testing method and received a certification from the Bureau of Standards, Metrology and Inspection of the Ministry of Economic Affairs for CNS fire door product registration. These fire doors have a fire endurance of 2 hours and possess thermal insulation performance, as well as certification for smoke containment performance.

The fire doors developed by TEBAU  feature a special structural design that ensures fire resistance and safety. They have successfully passed the 3-hour fire test conducted by UL (Underwriters Laboratories) and have received UL fire door certification.
